Proposed Modifications to the Environment

In order to source and control the necessary water flow for the hydro generator it is proposed that low weir structures be erected at the existing 3 outlets. The main weir will provide a take off point for the penstock supplying the generator and a spill way incorporating a fish pass.

From the weir at the lake outlet a 1.6m diameter penstock will be laid for approximately 2 km, partly through native forest on conservation estate and partly along the marginal strip and LINZ river bed on the true right side of the Matiri river, to NZE owned farm land at the head of the Matiri valley.

An existing access track will be upgraded and extended along the penstock route to the lake outlet. In places the penstock will be buried beneath the access track.

The power station will be located on the west bank of the Matiri river. The building proposed is a simple structure approximately 4m in height containing a single turbine set at ground level.
Proposed power house and tail race.
An open concrete channel tailrace approximately 2m wide will carry water from the power station approximately 50m back to the Matiri river.
